A two-alarm fire left a three-story apartment building in Washington Park with a partially collapsed roof and extensive damage Tuesday afternoon.
Residents living on the second and third floor of the building at 5450 S. Indiana Ave. were safely evacuated and there were no reported injuries.
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Kevin McGregor said the building suffered a partial roof collapse in the blaze, which was reported at 1:05 p.m. The fire was reported out by 2:35 p.m, he said.
It was not immediately known when residents would be able to return to their apartments, which McGregor said were damaged by smoke, fire and water.
Martha Dittmar, spokesperson for the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago, said the agency was still on the scene Tuesday trying to assess the residents' needs.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established, McGregor said.
