Fire damages two Brighton Park homes

A spreading house fire early Wednesday sent one man to the hospital and left two Brighton Park homes with minor damage, fire officials say.

The fire started at about 12:45 a.m. on the second floor of a house at 3743 S. California Ave. and spread to the house next door at 3741, officials said.

A 68-year-old man suffering from smoke inhalation and a leg injury was transported to Holy Cross Hospital and was in fair condition Wednesday, according to fire department spokesperson Kevin MacGregor.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
