A West Side man beat his father to death with a metal pipe
during an argument about money, prosecutors said today.
Clifford Salazar, 80, was found dead Tuesday in his family's home in the 4900 block of West Drummond Place.
Wayne J. Salazar, 57, was charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death, said Andy Conklin, spokesman for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.
The younger Salazar took unidentified pills and cut his wrists with a steak knife after the attack, Conklin said.
His mother and sister found him and called 911, Conklin said.
The two men had argued over the amount of financial assistance the elder Salazar was giving his daughter, said Conklin.
A judge set Salazar's bail at $750,000, said Conklin.
